Some Brief History of Mui Wo Island

Mui Wo is located on Silvermine Bay. Silvermine Bay was named after mines that used to work along the Silver River. The Silver River runs through the islands village.

Halfway through to 19th century the Silvermine cave was drilled to look for silver. For a while now it has been closed off for the safety of residents of the island and tourists.

During the year 1277 the imperial court took refuge in Silvermine Bay. In 1277 Silbermine Bay was known as Mei Yu.
